Support & Stand with Power Coalition Today

Power People!

We hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy. The Power Coalition for Equity and Justice and our partners care about you and are still fighting to shift the Power in this state with you by our side. COVID-19 has deepened the gaps in communities that were already fragile. The Power Coalition will continue to fight for democracy for our people and the daily realities they face. Help us change the state of Louisiana with a Powerful donation.

“We are each other's harvest; we are each other's business; we are each other's magnitude and bond.” – Gwendolyn Brooks

PCEJ’s mission has always been centered on racial equity. In the face of these concurrent crises–a virus that is disproportionately harming Black and Brown folks, amid a system that is doing the same–we will redouble our efforts and strive to be even more intentional about how we stand with our people to create a state and a country where no one has to live in fear, where no one is denied opportunity, where no one is unfairly targeted by the police, where no one’s humanity is denied because of the color of their skin. This movement is within us all, and we have to start close to home, with our cities, our parishes, and our state.

Who Are We?

The Power Coalition for Equity and Justice is a statewide civic engagement table, anchored by base-building organizations, in Louisiana that is working to shift power back to the people, fights policies that hurt our state’s families, and increases voter participation by building support structures for community activism.

The Power Coalition for Equity and Justice and our partners run statewide 501(c)(3) get-out-the-vote campaigns that focus on infrequent and semi-frequent Voters of Color to turn up and turn out the vote.

Your Investment in Power Allows Us to:

Run a statewide GOTV campaign. In the November election, we made over 1.8 million contact attempts to reach over 410,000 infrequent and semi-frequent voters of color. 62.1% of them voted in the election! In the December runoff, proportionately, there were more Black voters than white voters. 17.2% of White voters across the state turned out, while 17.8% of Black voters turned out to vote. During the runoff election, Power Coalition reached out to 196,276 voters of color and 29.6% of them voted-- turning voters out at almost twice the rate of those who were not contacted.

Advocate for Equitable Policy. In March 2020, we released our Road Map to Recovery: People-Centered Policy Solutions to the COVID-19 crisis. A policy document developed by over 30 partner organizations across the state as a guide to an equitable recovery. As we move into 2021 we will be working to advocate for policy that leads to an equitable recovery process.

We continue to build statewide power through meaningful relationships. We were able to give over 50 mini-grants to local grassroots organizations, churches, social organizations and clubs with your support. We will keep spreading the power and have people working within their communities engage their communities to fight for equity and justice from the local to the state level.

And finally, we escalated our organizing and sued the state to expand Vote by Mail in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. We Won! All Louisianans have the right to safe and accessible voting options, and we will exercise our Power in the quest towards Equity.

In the midst of this pandemic, the Power Coalition will continue to be a place for us to do this work collectively and be in community.

We love and appreciate working with you all during this time. Many of you have experienced great loss and we hope you know we’re grieving right alongside you.

Never in our lifetime has there been a more urgent call for Power and Equity. We see the hopeful signs of change coming – and we know we cannot take our eyes off the road for even a moment – for the moment is right now.
